Life as a parent doesn't leave a lot of room for self-care. Raising a human is hard work, a job in itself. And like any job, parents deserve a break every once in a while. Work-life-parenting balance is a struggle and our fearless leader, Dani Matthew, knows that struggle all too well. But don't fret! We have a few life hacks for you to get some R&R and still be a super-parent with a little help from this secret weapon--CBD!

Making time when you feel like you have none

One piece of advice Dani has offered about parenting is that it’s important to have a structured routine for both you and your children. We know what you're thinking: Who even HAS the time to think ahead? But trust us. Laying out your whole day in front of you with time slots for every activity, errand, and appointment, can help you also find the gaps in the day, or even set a whole day to rest and recharge.

CBD to fuel the mind

You've got the whole day planned to the minute, but your tank feels empty. Your brain needs fuel too and a CBD tincture is great for that. At any moment of the day that you feel your tank is running low, CBD will be there to gas you up. For breakfast, before errands, or before that trip to San Clemente’s Linda Lane Park, take CBD with you to get your mind and body ready.

Soothing the body with CBD

One day of hard parenting can do a number on your back, knees–and all the muscles. Let CBD handle that. To get deep into those aches, try our CBD Roll-on. Hemp-derived CBD combined with menthol and camphor all in one easy roll-on to massage as it provides cooling relief. If you would prefer menthol free, our CBD Peppermint salve has limited ingredients and still provides comfort for soreness.

Learning to Relax

Trying to relax is a paradox. Relaxing is letting go and doing nothing, but with intention. This may need discipline when you’re constantly answering demands. Even if you find a way to keep your mind fueled and the muscle discomfort to a minimum, those moments you plan out for relaxation should be spent truly resting.

If you’re finding it difficult to relax, start with deep breathing. Focus on breathing in and out and clear your mind of everything else. Doing this for at least 5 minutes can do wonders for your stress levels. Closing your eyes and taking a mental vacation can also help you unwind. Imagine a a place you enjoy, like taking a hike on the San Clemente Pier or playing a nice game of golf. Let your muscles relax and enjoy a moment of zen.

Parenting is the hardest and most rewarding job there is. There is nothing like the joy that your smiling child can bring. You are their whole world, their super hero. But even Avengers had tools and a lot of help from each other. CBD is just one tool that can provide a little relief during your day to day. Plan ahead to better manage your time and remember that doing nothing is sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself.

Every day we get the same question. What is a salve?

The definition of a Salve is an ointment used to promote healing of the skin or as protection. Commonly salves are to heal wounds and used to soothe and heal skin conditions. Some salves are antimicrobial; others are for muscle ache, bruising, and blood flow. Salves are sold in wide-top jars, and are applied with the finger, massaging the product directly into affected tissue.

Salves are not formulated with water, which makes them more occlusive than creams and lotions. A salve is a thick ointment that stays on the top of the skin but also penetrates more deeply into the skin. They are great for very dry skin types or for treating specific patches of skin.

Before drug stores and modern medicine, there were herbal salves made by herbalists and botanists using beneficial roots, berries, leaves, bark, flowers, and seeds. Salves are great item to add to your medicine cabinet for natural relief.

On our journey to natural ingredients, salves were the first product we tried to make and instantly fell in love. We use all our salves daily.

Sleep. Something we all need but rarely get. It is said that humans may spend about a third of their life sleeping, but day to day it can feel like we never have enough. Lack of sleep doesn’t just make you grouchy. Sleep is linked to heart health, the immune system, memory, and even weight management. If anything does the body good, it’s sleep.

The road to good sleep doesn’t start when your head hits the pillow. The sleep-wake cycle is one of the systems in your body that is a circadian rhythm. It is a 24-hour internal clock that takes cues from your daily routine and your environment. Everything you do from the oat milk latte you have in the morning to the doom scrolling you do at night are all signals your body watches out for so it knows it's time for bed. Here are 4 healthy habits to promote a good night’s sleep:

Start the day with CBD

I mean, coffee is great and all, but have you tried CBD in the morning? A breakfast fruit smoothie with a few drops of CBD tincture can help you start your day focused and energized. The more you get done at the beginning of your day, the more time you’ll have to get yourself prepared for rest at night. For parents in Orange County, CBD is essential for family fun days as we head into summer vacation.

Reduce TV and phone use

Easier said than done, but the days of falling asleep to episodes of Friends have to come to an end. When it’s time to sleep, the devices have to go off too. Watch that last episode, finish learning that TikTok dance, then put it away. Just because you’re falling asleep to Phoebe singing “smelly cat” doesn’t mean that you should keep it on for white noise to fall asleep. They have machines for that now that are much more pleasant and effective.

Take a calming bath

After a long day, it’s good to decompress. Having a relaxing nightly routine can really help rest both the body and mind. We’ll let you in on a little secret we have here in San Clemente for sleep and skin care—CBD. Draw a bath before bed with a CBD bath salt and follow it up with a CBD Sleep Balm. You can water two plants with one hose by adding CBD to your nightly ritual—great sleep and glowing skin.

Create your own sanctuary for rest

When people talk about the bedroom, let’s be honest, many of us don’t immediately think about sleep. But to get good sleep, you need to establish your room as a place of rest. Your bed shouldn’t be the place you review the events of the day or count your worries. Just because it’s a laptop doesn’t mean it has to be on your lap, and especially not in your bed. Create a space to make sleep come easy. Turn the lights down, close those curtains, keep that TV off (yes, we said it twice), reduce any noise, and focus on resting.

Beauty sleep is within your reach. The more sleep you get, the less stressed you’ll feel throughout the day. It only takes a few small improvements to see positive changes in your overall sleep. Building healthy habits goes a long way and getting the right tools, like CBD, can help maintain those habits. Stop by the Made from Dirt wellness store in San Clemente today to get the CBD sleep products you need to get your routine on track.
